Our buying philosophy
Deciding what to sell in the Farm Store is a huge responsibility, and one that we do not take lightly. With the Organic Standards and growth in the organic and biodynamic movements, it’s increasingly difficult to decipher the terminology being used, let alone the processes involved in the production of the individual goods and foods.
What we look for
At the Farm Store, our buyers are dedicated to selecting the best products for you. We invest time and effort to ensure that the items we stock meet our high standards. Here’s what we consider when making our decisions:
- Local and Regional Sourcing: We prioritize goods that are grown or produced locally and regionally.
- Clean Ingredients: We look for products that are free from chemicals, added sugars, and GMOs.
- Trusted Producers: We value relationships with growers and producers, especially those who adhere to biodynamic or organic practices, even if not officially certified.
- Producer Values: We support family-run operations and companies whose values align with ours.
- Economic Value: We strive to offer products that provide excellent value for you.
These factors guide our choices, but we know it’s not always straightforward. For instance, would you prefer potatoes from a neighbor farmer that isn’t certified organic, or certified-organic potatoes from Idaho? Whenever possible, we stock both, so you have the power to choose.
Been shopping here for over 30 years! The staff is, and always has been, nothing but kind and helpful! I am also always so impressed with their selection (high quality AND often several options to choose from), and by how many local items they carry (including their own of course)! Thank you for being here and being so supportive of our local community!
